Product Announcement: Closing the gap in business travel data

Goodwings releases a new feature to its extensive sustainability suite that will help close the gap in business travel data and bring more complete CO2 data. But it’s not all about CO2, closing the business travel data gap brings administrative, financial and security value as well.

One of the biggest value drivers for using a travel management platform is that your company gathers all your travel bookings in one place and gets full and complete data on your company travels, allowing you to easily report on and make fully informed decisions when it comes to finance and CO2 goals.

Reality is that despite using a travel management platform, some bookings will almost always fall through the cracks and be made outside the platform. For example, when an employee books a flight via Goodwings, but then later books the hotel elsewhere. It can be very hard to control despite a company’s best efforts to encourage and make guidelines to use their dedicated Travel management system.

This is one of the most common problems in corporate travel: incomplete data doesn't just mean a slightly-off number. It means companies are reporting a climate footprint they can't fully trust, and making decisions on top of it.

That is why we are very excited to announce the launch of our newest feature specifically to fix this: the CO2 Data Gap Dashboard.

How the CO2 Data Gap Dashboard works

The CO2 Data Gap Dashboard simply shows you how many bookings are likely booked outside Goodwings, by automatically flagging trips that are missing data.

Say an employee books a flight to New York through Goodwings, but no matching hotel booking shows up in the system. This will be flagged as an incomplete trip on the dashboard and give your company an overview of the data gap due to bookings being made outside Goodwings.

To help you close this gap and get closer to complete data, your employees will receive a monthly notification letting them know that transport or accommodation is missing on a trip with the option to log the missing trip data or mark this as not relevant if for instance they stayed private, so it's excluded from the company's climate reporting altogether.

It's a small nudge that closes a big gap.

Why this matters

If your company already uses Goodwings, this feature works in the background to make your existing CO2 data more accurate, without adding manual work for your company's travel responsible.

But the value goes beyond CO2

Complete, consolidated travel data isn't only a sustainability win. It has real financial and safety benefits too.

Stronger negotiating power. The more travel volume a company can document with a specific airline or hotel chain, the stronger its position when negotiating rates and contracts. Fragmented bookings mean fragmented leverage.

Better traveller safety. HR and travel managers can only look out for employees they can actually see. If a flight or hotel booking happens outside the main platform, that employee becomes harder to locate in an emergency. A complete data picture is also a safer one.

In short

The CO2 Data Gap Dashboard is a simple feature with big value: accurate climate reporting starts with complete data, and complete data starts with getting every trip into one place. It benefits employees, sustainability teams, finance teams, and HR alike.

Curious to see how it works, or how consolidating your company's travel could improve your own reporting? Reach out to the Goodwings team, we're happy to walk you through it.
