On the 9th of August 2021, the IPCC (the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) released the most extensive climate change report to date. The report has a clear statement; Global temperatures are rising, and mankind has unequivocally caused this. We need to take action now.
Highlights from the IPCC report
On the basis of extensive research of past, present and future climate, IPPC’s Sixth Assessment Report is clear about the vital consequences our current behavior has on climate change.
According to IPCC, the global temperature is expected to reach or exceed 1.5°C of heating over the next 20 years. Every fraction of a degree of warming leads to more dangerous and costly impacts.
-
Melting ice sheets, which could result in up to a 10,5 meters sea rise
-
Frequency in heatwaves and extreme weather events
-
Loss in species and more acidic oceans
There's still hope for a better future
Limiting global warming is still within reach, but it requires transformational change.
According to risk and behavioral scientist on climate and health, Dr. Sweta Chakraborty, there is hope for the future. However, it’s dependent on a change in human behaviour.
Sweta underlines the importance and value of the IPPC report and highlights that knowing for certain that the climate crisis is human-caused, also means that humans can also change the course that we're on.
In this video, Dr Sweta Chakraborty sheds light on the IPCC report and what we can do in order to fight against climate change.
No more business-as-usual
If we can learn anything from the IPCC report, it's that continuing business as usual is not an option, if we want to mitigate climate change - we can’t go back to the way we used to travel.
It's in the interest of businesses to take action and responsibility for their impact on the planet. Learn how we can help you track, reduce and set emission goals for your business travel, by booking a demo with one of our team.
